Villous adenoma has a distinct disease entity with comlex symptomatology, especially in order
age group, and special interests have been pointed out on the high possibility of malignant changes
and recurrence.
The chief complaints are rectal bleeding and profuse watery rectal discharge, followed by deter
ioization of fluid and electrolytes balance and systemic disturbances.
The rectal discharge contains large amount of potassim, compared with sodium and chloride
contents.
Some patient was misdiagnosed as the other sytemic disease because of bizarre symptomes and
signs.
Most of villous adenoma develops on the rectim at the distance of finger and sigmoidscpopy
examination, but many surgeon overlooks these tumors because it has soft smooth velvety structures,
The treatment must consist of preoperative correction of fluid and electrolytes imbalance and
adequate local excision (in full depth and width including normal tissue). If any evidence of
malignantly was found, extensive cancer operation should be performed.
We present a large villous adenoma developed on lower rectal wall with moderate fluid and
electrolyte imbalance, and brief review of literatures.
